sample the catch of the day
at KALK BAY, Cape Town’s most famous fishing village. It has a lively working harbour and the catch of the day can be bought fresh off the boats or sampled nearby. Browse through the many antique stores, galleries and bookshops and soak up the quirky, relaxed atmosphere in a coffee shop or in a restaurant perched above the waves.
swim
at FISH HOEK, renowned for its 2,5km beach which fringes a bay protected from the currents and stronger surf in the rest of False Bay. For this reason it is one of the safest swimming beaches in Cape Town. Keep an eye on the sharkspotter’s flags which inform you of the conditions.
visit the penguins
watch the oceans meet

hike with the baboons
CHACMA BABOONS are fascinating to us humans and Baboon Matters offer a 2-3 hour walking tour through mountain fynbos to spend time with them. Baboons can also be encountered in the Cape Point Reserve but do remember they are wild animals and must never be fed.
go wine tasting
CONSTANTIA VALLEY WINE ROUTE, dating back to 1685, is the oldest wine-making region in the southern hemisphere and is on the doorstep of Greenkeeper Lodge. It comprises 8 wine farms, each with its own tradition and premium wines. Venture further afield and choose one of the legendary wine routes of Stellenbosch, Franschoek or Paarl and spend an unforgettable day enjoying some of the Cape’s finest wines in breathtaking surroundings. Take your own, or treat yourself to a meal or a gourmet picnic lunch available from vineyard restaurants.
enjoy birding
at ZANDVLEI ESTUARY and RONDEVLEI NATURE RESERVES near Muizenberg. The wetland and lake of Rondevlei is home to almost 230 types of bird, as well as many reptiles & mammals, including a small hippopotamus population! Take your binoculars along to enjoy an attractive walk along the water’s edge and visit the six bird hides. Zandvlei is an important Wetland, River system and Estuary and the large body of water attracts bird watchers, walkers, picnickers, canoeists and windsurfers (an excellent spot for beginners); there is also a caravan park.
drive Chapman’s Peak
HOUT BAY is worth driving to from Noordhoek via the scenic 9km Chapman’s Peak Drive which offers breathtaking views. Encircled by mountains, Hout Bay boasts an active fishing harbour complete with numerous restaurants and a lovely swimming beach. Buy the best fish and chips in Cape Town to enjoy as a picnic on Chapman’s Peak Drive or watch a spectacular sunset from Chapman’s Peak Hotel over a platter of calamari.
